Third grade has been learning about author's purpose (persuade, inform, entertain) in reading class! Students had the chance to create their own cereal and design a box to demonstrate their understanding. Students had to persuade people to buy their cereal by adding a catchy phrase and illustration to the front of the box. Then, they had to inform people about their cereal's nutrition and ingredients on the side of the box. Finally, students entertained people by creating activities and jokes on the back of the box! #MTA #Reading 🥣

Last Friday, seventh grade volunteered to lead first grade in a math stations activity! Our seventh graders modeled great leadership skills and had fun teaching math. The theme of the activity was math concepts relating to future careers. Station one was, led by Selah and Lavey, was a future career as a doctor or nurse. Students used tape measures to measure their height, hands, feet, arms, and legs to the nearest inch. Students then compared the weights of different items to see which weighs more. Station two, led by Victor, Nijhon, and Jayden, involved jobs as a cook making equal pizza sections and builder building a tower with blocks. The first graders were then paid their salary and were able to go shopping. Station three, led by Kyshawn and Roman, was all about clocks and telling time. Students talked about getting to work on time and knowing what time to leave. The first graders practiced setting their clocks to specific times given. The final station, led by Angie and Yareli, included subtraction as a countdown to vacation. The first graders found the sum of the two number cubes rolled and then moved their counter on the game board until they reached vacation on day 50. #MTA #MathFun ➕➖

The WQLN PBS STREAM Machine is a mobile outreach vehicle that brings pop-up classrooms to schools and communities. Students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade engaged in hands-on lessons about science, technology, reading, engineering, art, and math. The mobile stopped by campus three different days to accommodate each grade. Students also received a take-home bag filled with educational activities and a book. A special thank you to Ms. Woodard and Ms. Allen for being amazing teachers and making learning fun! #MTA #STREAMMachine

Last Thursday, we held our Open House + Expo! Our students’ art was on display in the cafeteria. Art from each grade was displayed along with a collaborative artwork inspired by the artist Jim Dine for Valentine’s Day. Each grade had an opportunity to add to this work in their classes. We also had live music! Mrs. Rodgers would like to thank all the students and staff who helped to bring this event together, from carrying artworks downstairs, hanging them up, and all the great words of encouragement to our artists of MTA.
